Mandatory Reporting Guidelines for Florida

Although everyone has a responsibility to report abuse, only people of certain occupations or professions are mandatory reporters in the state of Florida. These professionally mandatory reporter is required by law to report abuse or suspected abuse and to provide their name to the Abuse Hotline Counselor when reporting.

Those with the following occupations are mandatory reporters of child abuse:

  • Physicians, osteopaths, medical examiners, chiropractors, nurses, or hospital personnel
  • Other health or mental health professionals
  • Practitioners who rely solely on spiritual means for healing
  • Teachers or other school officials or personnel
  • Social workers, daycare center workers, or other professional child care, foster care, residential, or institutional workers
  • Law enforcement officers or judges

How to report of abuse in FL
If the situation is an emergency or the victim is in imminent danger, the caller should dial 911, then follow up with a call to the Abuse Hotline.
