SUMMARY:Meet the Experts: The Role of Parents in Abuse Prevention with Ryan Dobson
DESCRIPTION:The Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention (ECAP) is committed to equipping parents\, churches\, and communities with the knowledge and resources necessary to protect the most vulnerable. In this session\, Ryan Dobson will delve into the crucial role parents play in preventing abuse and ensuring the security and well-being of their children. The discussion will cover strategies for identifying risks\, implementing safety plans\, and fostering open communication within families to safeguard against potential threats. \n\n\n\nRyan Dobson brings a wealth of experience and a deep personal commitment to this cause\, drawing from his extensive work with HomeSafe\, a church based seminar\, dedicated to empowering parents with practical tools for child protection. His approach is grounded in both his professional journey and the legacy of his father\, Dr. James Dobson\, a pioneering figure in family advocacy. This session is designed to provide parents with actionable steps to enhance the safety and security of their children in an increasingly complex world. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Our Expert\n\n\n\nRyan Dobson is a parenting expert with a deep-rooted passion for child protection and abuse prevention. Growing up as the son of Dr. James Dobson\, the founder of Focus on the Family\, Ryan was instilled with the importance of security and family safety from an early age. This unique upbringing has given him a profound understanding of the challenges parents face in today’s world. \n\n\n\nTogether with his wife\, Laura Dobson\, Ryan co-hosts REBEL Parenting\, a podcast dedicated to uplifting families and marriages. They travel the country\, speaking at churches and addressing the growing concerns parents have about their children’s safety. In response to these concerns\, they founded HomeSafe\, a program designed to equip parents with the strategies and tools they need to protect their families from real dangers online\, at home\, and in public spaces. \n\n\n\nAn accomplished author of six best-selling books\, Ryan has reached more than one million people worldwide through his speaking engagements and appearances in major media outlets\, including FOX News Huckabee and The Wall Street Journal. Ryan and Laura reside in Colorado Springs with their two children.

In this session you will learn what human trafficking looks like in our country and what our response should be. After more than two decades as a family counselor\, Julie Lowe has seen how important it is to help parents and caregivers think wisely and biblically about the dangers children face. Instead of living in fear or denial\, parents and caregivers can equip children to assess people and situations and model for them how to live by faith in a world where evil exists. \n\n\n\nLowe helps parents and caregivers teach the safety skills that will help protect their children from mistreatment\, unsafe situations\, violence\, bullying\, cyber-crimes\, predatory behavior\, sexting\, abuse\, and other kinds of danger that they might encounter. The safety skills that are needed at every stage—preschool\, elementary-age\, teens\, and college-bound—are discussed and applied in an age-appropriate way. \n\n\n\nSafeguards provides tools\, skills\, and resources to help when faced with uncomfortable\, challenging\, or dangerous situations. Instead of growing more anxious\, parents and caregivers can grow in a biblical understanding of the type of dangers and issues children and young people might face\, learn how to instill confidence and conviction in responding to new or fearful situations\, and distinguish safe vs. unsafe people and situations.

SUMMARY:Meet the Experts: Building Trust in Ministries with Jake Lapp\, ECFA
DESCRIPTION:The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability endeavors to enhance trust in Christ-centered churches and ministries. How organizations treat financial transparency\, board governance\, and stewarding charitable gifts can create trust with their donors or break it irreparably. In today’s world\, demonstrating trustworthiness is more important than ever in effectively reaching the world for Christ. ECFA exists to help enhance that trust through their accreditation program. \n\n\n\nECFA has multiplied from 150 pioneering charter members in 1979 to a diverse group of over 2\,700 accredited members today\, representing churches and ministries of all sizes and types that impact an estimated 2 billion people globally each year. These churches and ministries are committed\, in the spirit of 2 Corinthians 8:21\, to being accountable to God privately and publicly transparent to donors and the world. \n\n\n\nNo ministry is perfect. ECFA certainly doesn’t claim perfection. But while integrity doesn’t equal perfection\, it also doesn’t mean we’re off the hook. It means coming back and finding our identity in Christ and caring enough to do the hard work toward high standards that honor God. That’s the hard work that ECFA’s members and staff are committed to daily. \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout our Expert\n\n\n\nJake Lapp serves ECFA as Vice President of Member Accountability\, where he works mainly with current ECFA members in maintaining compliance with ECFA Standards. Jake enjoys getting to work with members through the annual renewal process\, the Standards Check-in program\, formal compliance reviews\, and answering questions regarding compliance with ECFA Standards and best practices. \n\n\n\nJake joined the ECFA team after working in public accounting and denominational leadership. Jake values the opportunity to work closely with ministries and churches of all sizes as they seek to enhance trust in their organization.

Visit https://julielowe.org. \n\n\n\nHuman Trafficking\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHuman sex trafficking is the exploitation of a person for profit and the trauma it leaves in its wake is devastating. There are many myths associated with human trafficking and those myths distract us from what is really happening to our children right under our noses.  Every day in almost every city in America children are being sold for sex and we can stop it. In this session you will learn what human trafficking looks like in our country and what our response should be. You  We will cover ways to protect children and wrap around those in our communities with specific vulnerabilities. Ending sex trafficking is possible and it all starts with education. \n\n\n\nOnline Safety\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLike any tool\, the internet and our digital devices can be used for good and ill. Parents and caregivers should be on the front lines to protect children and youth from online threats and exploitation. Learn how to stay alert to virtual dangers and how to put measures in place to keep kids safe online. \n\n\n\nTeach safety\, supervise young children\, review games and apps\, adjust privacy settings\, warn about online dangers\, be alert to signs of abuse\, identify safe adults\, report incidents to the authorities. \n\n\n\nThank you to our sponsors:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSafeguards\n\n\n\nBecause children are vulnerable\, they need to be protected.

SUMMARY:Handling Allegations in a Ministry: Responses and Investigations Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Receiving an allegation of some kind of misconduct is always a shock and may trigger a crisis situation. The end goal will be to bring peace and healing\, but it may be a long journey. This talk will provide principles on how to respond initially\, what plans to put in place\, and how to evaluate if an investigation is needed. Then it walks through how to plan and execute a good investigation\, addressing some practical and legal concerns. This may include “red flags\,” who should conduct an investigation\, and to what extent legal counsel and other experts may be needed. A correct approach will help avoid serious mistakes\, minimize damage\, and prepare the organization to provide healing to people harmed. An investigation is designed to uncover truth\, but the goal should be for the truth to be used for repentance and healing. \n\n\n\nThis event will be free for ECAP Members and $20 for non-members. All attendees will receive a copy of Theresa Sidebotham’s book Handling Allegations in a Ministry: Responses and Investigations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you to our sponsors for this event!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout our Presenter:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTheresa Sidebotham assists organizations in the U.S. and internationally\, with a special focus on employment law\, religious and nonprofit law\, and child safety. She advises on numerous misconduct investigations. She is also the founder of Telios Law PLLC. Theresa was mentored by judges at the Colorado Court of Appeals and worked at a large law firm serving religious institutions and doing general litigation before opening Telios Law. She has since gone on to represent a variety of businesses\, ministries\, churches\, and individual clients in matters ranging from child protection to employment to civil rights and more. Her cross-cultural experience helps her serve ministries and businesses well\, particularly in negotiating employment problems and conducting internal investigations into misconduct allegations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Handling Allegations In Ministry: Responses and Investigations\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA church office worker complains about romantic advances made by a married pastor. What do you do? Parents in your congregation accuse a teenage boy of touching their daughter inappropriately. How should you handle it? A woman in your ministry files a sexual harassment complaint about a male coworker\, which turns into a confusing he said/she said clash. How can you determine the truth? \n\n\n\nAllegations of harm must be taken seriously. The health and reputation of the organization\, the potential victim\, and the accused are at stake. How do you go about investigating in a proper and godly way? \n\n\n\nThis handbook helps pastors\, ministry leaders\, board members\, and HR professionals navigate the process of response and investigation\, which may require outside expertise. With clear and practical guidance\, this book will show you how to: \n\n\n\n\nRespond to complaints and make appropriate reports\n\n\n\nListen to and protect those who may have been harmed\n\n\n\nCreate a fair process and communicate it appropriately\n\n\n\nTake responsibility and restore those who have been harmed

SUMMARY:Trauma & Abuse in the Church: A Biblical Response
DESCRIPTION:Stories like Mars Hill\, Willow Creek\, Harvest Bible Chapel and more demonstrate that we can’t assume church is a safe place\, even despite our best intentions. Pastors and leaders must seek to protect the flock entrusted to them and promote healing for those affected by physical\, sexual\, emotional\, or religious trauma. \n\n\n\nA 2019 Lifeway Study revealed that 10% of Protestant churchgoers under 35 have left a church because they felt sexual misconduct was not taken seriously. Almost half (44%) of Protestant churchgoers said they have been victims of sexual misconduct\, with 12% of those saying the misconduct happened at church. In order to reach the next generation\, pastors must be equipped to deal with the problem of abuse and lead their congregations to love and care for survivors. \n\n\n\nGospel Care Collective and ECAP have partnered together to host a discussion aimed to provide a biblical response to this critical issue. The panel will be composed of experts from various fields\, including pastoral ministry\, theology\, and counseling. We will seek to provide a Christian perspective on the nature of trauma and abuse\, the process of restoration and healing\, and our responsibility in abuse prevention. This discussion is sure to provide valuable insights for both individuals and churches alike.

SUMMARY:Meet the Experts: Ron Aguiar on Church Safety
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, many churches and ministries have recognized the need for security teams to help ensure the safety of their worship services. These teams help keep a safe perimeter so that those who have gathered to worship don’t have to worry about threats of violence or intimidation while at church. But do ministry leaders have the same mindset towards the most vulnerable in their programs? \n\n\n\nRon Aguiar\, Founder and CEO of Oasis Safety\, will join us on Meet the Experts to discuss how security teams can help protect the children that are a part of a church’s programming. With more than 30 years of experience in private security\, law enforcement\, and church security\, he is able to relate and respond to just about any security-related situation a church or para church organization would face. He has helped hundreds of churches across the country in setting up and improving their safety and security programs\, which focus on subjects such as child abuse prevention\, and active shooter response training. \n\n\n\nAbout our Expert\n\n\n\nRon Aguiar is considered an expert in church safety and security. \n\n\n\nThank you to our sponsors:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSafeguards\n\n\n\nBecause children are vulnerable\, they need to be protected.

SUMMARY:Meet the Experts: Treading Boldly Through a Pornographic World: A Field Guide for Parents with Daniel Weiss and Josh Glaser
DESCRIPTION:Parents today are the first generation to raise kids in a digitally connected\, porn-saturated world. Porn can be accessed in locker rooms\, cafeterias\, classrooms\, and bedrooms—anywhere kids have access to digital devices. Worse yet\, pornography that was once considered fringe has become increasingly mainstream. All this is misshaping children’s understanding of sexuality\, stunting their capacity to process emotions\, and crippling their ability to form long-term relationships. In our upcoming Meet the Experts\, Daniel Weiss and Josh Glaser offer practical and spiritual guidance for parents seeking to help their teens navigate this pornographic digital landscape. Combining the latest research with personal and professional experience to guide families into the goodness for which God created us all\, the authors skillfully outline the steps necessary for parents to move beyond merely surviving pornography’s challenges onto a rewarding path where their children can truly thrive. \n\n\n\nAbout our Experts: \n\n\n\n\nDaniel Weiss is a writer\, speaker\, and visionary — passionate about tackling tough questions about sexual identity with depth and compassion. He has spent two decades helping church and community leaders\, educators and policy makers address complex situations surrounding sexual brokenness with hope and life-giving truth.     \n\n\n\nIn 2012\, Daniel established The Brushfires Foundation (now Sexual Integrity Leaders) to equip Christian leaders to foster sexual integrity in their churches and communities. In 2017\, Daniel headed a coalition of two dozen organizations that contracted Barn Group to conduct original research on how pastors and churches were addressing sexual issues. He serves as lead author of Sexuality & the Church in America\, a series of reports based on this Barna research. \n\n\n\n\nDaniel is coauthor of Treading Boldly Through a Pornographic World: A Field Guide for Parents (Salem\, 2021) and has authored chapters in the books The Decalogue Project: Disciples from Six Continents Engage God’s Ten Commandments and Opposing Viewpoints: Sexual Violence. Other writings have appeared in The Federalist\, The Washington Times\, The Denver Post\, Citizen\, and BreakPoint.com\, among others. He has given hundreds of print and radio interviews and has shared the air with radio hosts Alan Colmes\, Frank Pastore\, Janet Mefford\, and many others. Additionally\, he is featured prominently in the documentary film The Heart of the Matter: Finding Light in the Darkness of Pornography Addiction and has appeared on the Focus on the Family daily broadcast with Jim Daly. \n\n\n\nDaniel has given keynote addresses at In the Image of God: A Christian Vision of Love and Marriage at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne\, Indiana\, and the Utah Coalition Against Pornography conference in St\, George\, Utah.  He has also presented at the Capitol Hill Summit on Pornography: Obscenity Enforcement\, Corporate Participation and Violence against Women and Children and the Conference on Pornography at the National Press Club in Washington\, D.C. \n\n\n\nPrior to founding The Brushfires Foundation in 2012 and serving as its president\, Daniel was the senior analyst for media and sexuality and social issues manager with Focus on the Family for nearly nine years. \n\n\n\nDaniel and his wife\, Krista\, live with their five children on the family farm in rural Wisconsin. \n\n\n\nJosh Glaser is the Executive Director of Regeneration\, where he and his staff equip men and women to live out God’s good\, holy\, and beautiful design for relationships and sexuality. He is the creator of Awaken\, a four-part discipleship series for men pursuing sexual integrity\, the host of the Becoming Whole podcast\, and co-author of Treading Boldly through a Pornographic World: A Field Guide for Parents.
