SUMMARY:Meet the Experts: Beth Broom on Choosing the Right Counselor
DESCRIPTION:Beth is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional\, Level 2 (CCTP-II). Beth is interested in the interplay between church-based ministry and professional Christian counseling. She consults with churches and counseling practices regarding how to utilize counseling within the church\, and collaborate with professional counselors to bridge the (sometimes vastly wide) gap between churches and mental health professionals. Beth is passionate about bringing trauma-informed care to the Church. She is working closely with other counselors and vocational ministers to create materials and resources in trauma healing for pastors\, counselors and church-based ministries.  \n\n\n\nBeth has a private counseling practice\, working primarily with married couples\, vocational ministers and survivors of abuse. Beth Is the Executive Director of Christian Trauma Healing Network\, a nonprofit organization that offers resources\, training and collaboration to Christian mental health providers\, pastors\, lay counselors and advocates.

Her experience includes successful cases before the United States Supreme Court in constitutional claims\, extensive work in free speech and religious freedom issues\, and dozens of successful jury trials. That experience has given her a national presence with organizations that serve young people. \n\n\n\nMs. Ausburn’s background has given her unique insights into defending childcare centers\, camps\, schools\, and mentoring organizations. She has conducted numerous investigations of claims of historic child abuse and sexual assault or harassment claims. She also advises youth-serving organizations about child protection policies\, staff screening\, conduct standards\, cyberbullying\, and best practices for protecting the children in their care. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTom Rawlings has served as a juvenile court judge\, Georgia child welfare ombudsman\, Guatemala country director for International Justice Mission\, director of Georgia’s Division of Family and Children Services\, and attorney for youth organizations. SUMMARY:Safeguards for Kids Tour - McLean Bible Church

What can Christians do to change these disturbing facts? \n\n\n\nJulie Lowe argues that Christians must lead the way in prevention and response measures to keep kids safe and to respond with the hope of the gospel. Julie is a licensed professional counselor who brings over twenty years of counseling experience to help equip parents to become aware of this issue\, and equip their children to recognize\, respond\, and report immoral behavior from an adult. \n\n\n\nSafeguards 4 Kids will help parents and caregivers to have wisdom and discernment in parenting\, and will teach them how to have age-appropriate conversations with their kids about abuse and threats. John finished his lengthy career in the nonprofit sector having retired in April 2022 as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). In his capacity as CEO\, John was the chief child safety advocate for NCMEC and as such helped shape public policy and encourage community action to ensure every child has a safe childhood. John has testified before Congress\, the European Commission\, and EUROPOL as a subject matter expert regarding the global problem of child exploitation. In addition\, John was credited with growing the organization to over 400 employees and an annual revenue base of more than 60 million dollars\, all of which was focused on finding missing children and stopping child exploitation.More recently\, John and his wife became owners/operators of Harvest of Hope Farm\, LLC in Culpeper\, Virginia where they grow produce in large quantities\, 100% of which is donated to regional food banks. In this session you will learn what human trafficking looks like in our country and what our response should be. You  We will cover ways to protect children and wrap around those in our communities with specific vulnerabilities. DESCRIPTION:Having a plan for how your organization would respond to a discovery of abuse is invaluable. Whether the abuse were to be perpetrated by someone within your organization or someone without\, how you respond will impact the victim’s recovery\, perpetrator’s sentence\, and your organization’s reputation.  \n\n\n\nJoin us as we engage in a discussion about what elements you should include in your church or ministry’s response plan so that you may respond biblically and lawfully if an allegation of abuse were to arise.  \n\n\n\nWe don’t like to think about the fact that one of our own could be abused in our care or that one of our own could be an abuser. But that is precisely why it is so vital to create and maintain an abuse response plan while heads are clear\, and hearts are not burdened by the sorrow that comes when abuse is uncovered.  \n\n\n\nAlthough we do everything in our power to protect kids and prevent abuse\, on this side of heaven it still happens.
